Night One:
This is a journal by Jahlam Thornweaver, Steward of the Order of Malorne. Earlier on this night our Grand Druid Lissali gave out various missions and many took them. I’ve always been looking for an adventure and when she was just standing there handing them out I wasn’t about to just let one pass me by. One of the missions was to learn about the worgen, I had never seen one before but I heard many stories about them, how they where monsters that only the nightmare itself could dream up. The mission would also take me to the Eastern Kingdoms which I had rarely been to. This would be the perfect adventure.
When I had my chance I place myself in front of Grand Druid Lissali and High Druid Rhuu and told them my wish. They granted it! The Grand Druid even said this would be a good mission for me! Though she also said she would be watching this mission very closely. I was ecstatic but I made sure it did not show, I am still only 130 and I don’t want others to think I am still a child. I was all ready to go when another druid named Valindren spoke up, he wished to take the same mission the the Grand Druid and High Druid told us that we should work together. I was not happy, this was my mission, my moment to stand out and be seen as something more then a young pup.
Valindren and I both agreed to meet at Refuge Point in the Highlands, from there we traveled to Silverpine forest where it is said to the have largest amount of worgen. When we got to the forest I looked around and at first it was beautiful, but then as I started to look closer and we got deeper into the woods I began to feel unsafe. The tree’s have blood on them, the earth at my feet is mostly dirt with little to no grass, there is a fog that almost seems unnatural, I did not know it yet but this was a place of nightmares.
Valindren suggested that we head to the Greymain Wall and see if any information could be obtained there. Along the road we ran into a camp full of mages. I told Valindren to go a head and see what information he could obtain there wile I question the mages. He ran off and I walked down to the mages to question them about the worgen, they clamed to have little time for my questions and said that if I wish to learn about worgen I should go to Shadowfang Keep. The mage I spoke to told me that the ruler of that keep was a powerful archmage that was driven mad with grief. The mage informed me that the horde had slain the archmage but a book may still remain. The book is called The Book of Ur and the mage informed me that any questions I have about the worgen will be answered by this book.
I thanked mage and ran off to track Valindren down and tell him of the information i have gained. As I rushed down the path I had my first encounter with a worgen. It was a white man like wolf, its teeth, its claws, even the way it stud was horrifying. I was frozen with fear. “Could this really be the creature that pledged these lands? Could this be the creature that I so willingly volunteered to study and learn of? How could the Grand Druid think this task was good for me?!” All these thoughts ran through my head at once. I think the worgen could feel my fear because it suddenly ran towards me on all fours to me. The first thing that came to my head was to run, run from this monster of the night, but I couldn’t. This was my mission, the adventure I had always been waiting for, dreaming about, I wasn’t about to run away now.
I stood my ground and bowed my head, I began to pray to Elune asking for the power to slay my enemy. I could feel the energy of Elune traveling through me, the energy of the moon. Once that energy got to my hands I aimed at the worgen and let the engery floe. A powerful Starfire struck the worgen and creature fell dead just before it reached me.
I stood over the dead creature inspecting it, it was even more menacing up close. “May Elune grant you endless peace in death” I said to my foe and walked away shaken. I calmed myself down and found my way to Valindren, he was outside the Greymain Wall with many refugees, it was a sad site, Valindren said he gained little information. I told him of what knowledge I acquired form the mages and we decided to strike out for Shadowfang Keep.
Validren and I headed down the path when we both picked up a strange sent, it smelt of blood and dead flesh, at first I though it was the scourge or the forsaken but Validren seemed to know better. He ran back to the refugees and I followed, he yelled to the refugees to ready themselves for an attack. We stood together in front of the refugees waiting for the creatures to attack, and they did. A pack of worgen monsters came charging from the forest and we held our ground and fought. Many of the refugees where little help and only had daggers for weapons.
Now that I see the true horrors of silverpine I am glad that Validren is with me. We faught for hours as the worgen continued to come and only now have the attacks stopped. Validren and I told the refugees we would stay the night and help them fight off the worgen until dawn. I am using this time to write down what has happened so that any detail of this mission is not lost or incase Validren and I die here in this nightmare forest.
I mustn’t think like that Validren and I are stewards of the Order of Malorne and skilled druids we can handle this, this is our mission and the adventure I have been waiting for. We will not fail.
I woke this morning to rain, I love the rain back home, but this is not home and the rain here is cold and thick. I looked around for Valindren but he was no where to be found, the refugees say that he walked off and said he would return later, I don’t know where he went, maybe he returned to moonglade for something. So it seemed that today I would be on my own, I said my good byes to the refugees and left the Greymain Wall. Normally I would travel through the woods but not here, not this accursed place, here I stick to the roads and paths not that they are much safer. I have seen the wildlife here, the bears, the worgs, and other creatures here seem to have gone mad with hunger like the worgen.
There wasn’t much fighting today, I stuck mostly to the shadows in the form of a cat which got me past almost any danger. A few worgs where able to sniff me out but as smart as those creatures are I was still able to best them. I made sure not to take my chances with any worgen I came across and kept a great distance between them and I.
Its was getting dark now and I think I see a village up a head, I will stay there tonight. The village looks safe enough despite the fact that Shadowfang Keep linger just above it. Yes I will stay the night here it is better then being out there in the wild where the worgen rule.
Night Two: (there are dots of blood on this page and the writing seems to be a bit shaky)
The village was a trick, the villagers where all worgen and I have paid the price for falling for this Archmages tricks. I have been struck in the chest, once night welll a woman there at the inn change into a worgen and attacked me. She reached for my chest with her class as if to rip out my heart but i fell backwards out of fear and her claws just cut my chest. I used my druid magics and preformed the typhoon power, launching the worgen away from me. I then took to the form of a cat and fell into shadows. I moved as quickly as I could to get out. I move up the path to Shadowfang Keep and stopped just before the bridge.
I preformed what little healing I could, it saved my life but it did not fully heal me. The claw marks will scare and I will carry this mission and all its horrors with me, on my chest, for the rest of my days.
Brought close to death I suddenly had no fear for loss of life. I took to the form of a cat once more and walked my way through the shadows of the keep. Thats where I found Valindren. He had been here the hole time fighting the worgen that still remained here. He was out numbered but man could he fight, still he needed help and once I got there and we worked together we where able to fight our way through to where the archmages, lab i would call it. There I took to my true form and began looking through notes and books that the horde had so carelessly left behind, though I could not find The Book of Ur, I guess the horde must not be all that thick. I did see many references in the archmages note to the book though. It appears that the worgen and not from this world but from another, this archmage in his maddness summoned them here to be his children. He even began to experiment on the worgen, try and make his own, the village that i stayed at was one of these experiments. He made it so the worgen could infect the humans and change them into worgen by night. It said in his notes that he wishes to change all into his children, that he was going to target the human city of Gilneas. Though the mad archmage is dead I fear that the worgen might have gotten into the closed city. I need to get into the city some how maybe Validren and I can figure out how. I fear for those people I hope they still live, I hope the curse has not reached them.
Day Three:
It is morning but the sun has yet to rise, I am sitting against the Graymain Wall, Valindren has just returned form scouting out the city from the sky. I have always wondered what it is like to fly but now is not the time to day dream. Valindren informed me that the city has been over run by the worgen, much as I feared, but there is still hope. Valindren discovered that there is a large amount of humans still alive in the back of the city still fighting for their very lives. Our mission is done here, we will leave as soon as we are strong enough to and head home. We will inform the Grand Druid and High Druid of our findings and hopefully help those poor souls. I honestly never want to see Silverpine forest again, it is a forest of nightmares, but I will return for those people. I will help them fight off the worgen infestation and hopeful destroy the monsters for good.
